The Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival (Sitges Festival for short) publishes this year as an official book a work by our journalist (and nevertheless friend) Pacus González Centeno, entitled "Three pieces for the murderer: Jazz, rock and electronics in crime and horror cinema ", in which he analyzes chronologically, decade by decade, the relationship between popular music styles and the main genre film styles of the 2nd half of the 20th century. Pacus had the brilliant (and crazy) idea of complementing the edition of the book with a disc of versions of some of the songs shelled in the book performed by bands from our current underground scene, and he raised the proposal to Family Spree Recordings, with the aim to collaborate in the selection of the songs, enrollment of the bands and coordination of all the actions necessary for the project to see the light. The idea was hatched in the form of a double LP and with the title "Kong'n'roll - 26 rock'n'roll bands tribute to the Sitges Horror Film Festival" and has the participation of 26 bands performing masterfully songs included in some of the films that formed the soundtrack of any of the selected films. And its edition will take place under the new label "Sawyer Family Party", to inaugurate a saga of future online projects different from that of its parent label.

Gala Mill is the third studio album by Australian band the Drones, which was released in September 2006. Recorded in an abandoned mill in Tasmania, it was their last album to feature founding member Rui Pereira and the first to feature Mike Noga on drums. The music, which makes "an epic leap beyond garage rock", adds influences from folk rock and contemporary folk music to their usual punk blues style. Gareth Liddiard's lyrics for the album are centered more on Australia's colonial and recent history, evident in tracks such as "Jezebel", "Words From The Executioner To Alexander Pearce" and "Sixteen Straws".Much like its predecessor, the album received critical acclaim from sources both within and outside Australia, with much of it centered on the album's raw musical style and Liddiard's dark lyricism.

Atlanta-based veterans Black Lips present their tenth studio album pocalypse Love'. "Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By" is the second album released by the Drones. The album draws influence from the likes of Neil Young and The Birthday Party, though it has been described by lead singer/guitarist Gareth Liddiard himself as a punk rock album. The lyrics, penned by Liddiard, deal with issues such as death, depression and alcoholism in its depiction of Australian working class life. The album received critical acclaim upon release, regarded later on as the band's "break-out" and one of their most popular releases. The track "Shark Fin Blues", in particular, went on to become a concert staple and was voted by contemporary Australian songwriters as the greatest Australian song of all time in October 2009. The album itself was performed live in its entirety many times, even as a part of the acclaimed Don't Look Back concert series. In 2008, The Age ranked it the best Australian album of the 21st century. Three years later, the band's contemporaries & "industry experts" would vote it the 24th best Australian album of all time.

The previous LP, Sadness Makes Me Less Unkind, could be framed within the alt country and folk of bands like The Sadies or Mark Lanegan, while drawing on traditional influences from Johnny Cash to Townes Van Zandt. Although these influences continue to permeate the music of Pale Preacher, Hanged, Drawn, Quartered…, it is, in general, a denser and darker album, with angular electric guitar arrangements, closer at times to the early Bad Seeds or Kim Salmon and their respective reviews of roots music.

For Fantasmage life passes very quickly, shortly after forming the band they make a big splash with their first demo “Fantasmage” (2011) and Discos Humeadores proposes the recording of this, their first full-length. Twelve incisive garage punk cuts recorded again with the help of Manu G. Sanz (Indómitos), “he's a good friend of ours and we trust him 100%. Besides, he knows perfectly what sound we want and he has an unusual sensitivity for music, so we didn't hesitate for a second when it came to recording with him ”they commented in a recent interview on the website Desconcierto. Open "Back to start", noise, distortion and accelerated rhythms recovered from their initial demo (the four cuts of the demo are included on the album, re-recorded) ... "1,2,3,4, 5, 6, back to start ”. "Bones" is a halftime that reaches deep inside - "Bones I need to build your kisses / and I keep them under lock and key yes / your kisses escape me I want to get your bones / they melt like a drug yes or yes" and "There is noise "A rush forward with an oppressive pace. “Metido entre sombra” is one of the best cuts on the album, the explosive riffs follow one another and the melody is poisoned by electric oscillations and redeeming shadows. The schemes are maintained in “La Miedosa”, hardened pop punk with an energetic guitar-drums combo. In “En familia” they step on the gas and let themselves be carried away by the badass tints - “we're going to stab you with love” - and the loudest garage. To that same terrain they take "Ella es un spectrum" and "Strawberry wild", a surprising version of the song by Camilo Sesto. They close the energetic “Camándula” and “Vaciado”, a melodic and acoustic halftime that ends up being poisoned by electricity. Fantasmage confirm with this album the great expectations placed on them.

Through the recent years of lockdowns and silence and having too much time to think, Tex Perkins always found solace in the company of song. Having his friend Matt Walker as a co-writer-conspirator, Perkins revelled in the experience which prompted the forming and recording of the first Fat Rubber Band album at Walker & #39’s Stovepipe Studios with bassist Steve Hadley, drummer Roger Bergodaz and percussionist Evan Richards. After such an affirmative and creative experience Perkins was itching to commence work on what has become the band’s second album, Other World. “The first Fat Rubber Band album was kind of deliberately a little ragged. A bit fuzzy around the edges” said Perkins. “There is a certain maturity that we now possess where ideas can be realised and take form very quickly. We’ve become a real band. I think what you heard on the first album is the band being formed.” While he’s played with many musicians, finding true collaborators is something that Perkins treasures. During the lockdowns, he pondered whether he would ever have that day-to-day musician experience again. With The Fat Rubber Band it’s not just another grouping of musicians playing music together, but a gathering that is very much about the head, heart and soul and something he is clearly grateful for. “Roger Bergodaz was incredible. His drum kit was in the control room and he engineered the record and played drums pretty much at the same time! He constantly created the surroundings where an enthusiastic and positive atmosphere always prevailed. We never came away empty handed. I loved making this record so much,” Perkins says, “because fucking magic happened. Yes, that’s right, magic or how about alchemy? (A medieval science with a mysterious process that seeks to turn base metals into Gold.) Well, I dunno about gold, but I witnessed ideas, thoughts, whims and imaginings transmute almost effortlessly into living breathing songs with a soul and a heartbeat and even their own private history every time we went into the studio for this recording. Actually, no, magic is better.” Perkins explains “This magic came about with the help of over 4O years of experience from each of the Fat Rubber band members. They’re all truly great players and they’re all really generous collaborators, so I guess what I’m saying is, it doesn’t matter what happens from here. I’m very aware these days, with 100s of new releases each week, it’s harder than ever to get people to give a shit about a new album from anybody, let alone from a bunch of hairy blokes in their 50s from Australia fronted by a dude that’s been around since the early eighties named Tex. Actually, I can’t believe you’re still reading this! But you know it doesn’t really matter, I’ve seen the magic.”

Martin Rev and his fourth album followed Suicide's Why be blue album from 1992. Released by the Roir label, sixteen songs with melody cuttings instead of defined structures, showing the power of R&B distilled through a keyboard and with the same sentimental or poetic tone as the Jonathan Richman or Chet Baker recordings. A nostalgic portrait of NY with romantic energy about, by and for the metropolis.

Thanks to good timing and some great singles, the Breeders' second album, Last Splash, turned them into the alternative rock stars that Kim Deal's former band, the Pixies, always seemed on the verge of becoming. Joined by Deal's twin sister Kelley -- with whom Kim started the band while they were still in their teens -- the group expanded on the driving, polished sound of the Safari EP, surrounding its (plentiful) moments of brilliance with nearly as many unfinished ideas. When Last Splash is good, it's great: "Cannonball"'s instantly catchy collage of bouncy bass, rhythmic stops and starts, and singsong vocals became one of the definitive alt-pop singles of the '90s. Likewise, the sweetly sexy "Divine Hammer" and swaggering "Saints" are among the Breeders' finest moments, and deserved all of the airplay they received. Similarly, the charming twang of "Drivin' on 9," "I Just Wanna Get Along"'s spiky punk-pop, and the bittersweet "Invisible Man" added depth that recalled the eclectic turns the band took on Pod while maintaining the slick allure of Last Splash's hits. However, underdeveloped snippets such as "Roi" and "No Aloha" drag down the album's momentum, and when the band tries to stretch its range on the rambling, cryptic "Mad Lucas" and "Hag," it tends to fall flat. The addition of playful but slight instrumentals such as "S.O.S" and "Flipside" and a version of "Do You Love Me Now?" that doesn't quite match the original's appeal reflect Last Splash's overall unevenness. Still, its best moments -- and the Deal sisters' megawatt charm -- end up outweighing its inconsistencies to make it one of the alternative rock era's defining albums.

Martin Rev's fifth solo album was created at the cusp of the millennium. Angry, electric music, condensed in the memories of the doo wop he heard on the transistor in his childhood. Close to Panasonic, specifically Mika, the original release was carried out on the Finnish label Puu, with traces of contemporary music and track electronics with rhythmic loops and Rev's voice in wild and hypnotic mod.
