A real soul gem from 1970 on the James Brown affiliated Deluxe label, the first and only album by this mysterious singer: Marie Queenie Lyons.The songs are a combination of funky covers, some of which she'd been doing in her live shows, like 'Fever' and 'Try Me,' and originals co-written by pianist Don Pullen, who was the bandleader on the session.Our reissue features an alternative cover photo and includes a booklet with rare photos, extensive liner notes by Andrew "Monk-One" Mason and the first ever interview with Queenie herself!

The Savages are now in their 40th year of recording and this LP is a genre bending pile driver that has the same energy as their self titled LP from 1983. The band features original line-up core members Barrence Whitfield, Peter Greenberg and Phil Lenker along with Andy Jody and Tom Quartulli who have been with the band a dozen years. The LP was produced by Mike Mariconda and the Savages were joined on this recording by Spencer Evoy on Baritone Sax. The Savages most recently had a successful run of recordings on Bloodshot Records, having re-grouped in 2010. They continue to unleash their distinctive brand of rock & roll that mixes up a cocktail of soul, blues and garage. It is timeless and highly recommended!

This was the second Sam & Dave album to enjoy significant crossover appeal. The 1967 record included such hits as "Said I Wasn't Gonna Tell Nobody," "Soothe Me," and "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby." Isaac Hayes and David Porter were now rolling as songwriters, and even though the record didn't attain big pop numbers, the singles clicked with both soul and pop audiences. More importantly, Sam & Dave's teamwork and vocal interaction were establishing them as major stars.

They have been years of searching, of little haste and many pauses, -one of them stopped the world in an unusual way-, of trials and successes, diving and reflection, of concerts and bewilderment to, finally, find the music that they would really want to consume. its five members of not being their own, to try to be the group they would want to see live, to settle old debts with their most intimate nature, with their DNA. There is no obvious reference band in the final sound, but they are all there. Few clues remain from those first steps that led to such a different place, to such a particular universe. It's not pop, it's not rock, it's not ska, it's not soul, it's not indie or new wave, but it's all at once.

The great Texas bluesman Lightnin' Hopkins (1912-1982) recorded these fabulous tracks for Aladdin in Los Angeles and Houston between 1946 & 1948. These early performances are considered as seminal works not only for Hopkins's career but also for the whole history of country Blues. Here Lightnin' is mostly alone with his guitar, except on some tracks where he is joined by pianist Wilson "Thunder" Smith or some unknown drummer. Hopkins's intense guitar and deep voice and lyrics are at the very center of this unprecedented music. In one word. A masterpiece!!!
