The Rolling Stones' 1967 recordings are a matter of some controversy; many critics felt that they were compromising their raw, rootsy power with trendy emulations of the Beatles, Kinks, Dylan, and psychedelic music. Approach this album with an open mind, though, and you'll find it to be one of their strongest, most eclectic LPs, with many fine songs that remain unknown to all but Stones devotees. The lyrics are getting better (if more savage), and the arrangements more creative, on brooding near-classics like "All Sold Out," "My Obsession," and "Yesterday's Papers." "She Smiled Sweetly" shows their hidden romantic side at its best, while "Connection" is one of the record's few slabs of conventionally driving rock. The best tracks on the American edition were the two songs that gave the group a double-sided number one in early 1967: the lustful "Let's Spend the Night Together" and the beautiful, melancholy "Ruby Tuesday," which is as melodic as anything Mick Jagger and Keith Richards would ever write.

The first hits compilation of the Rolling Stones is still one of the most potent collections of singles that one can find. Listening to it in 1966 or today, one can understand how, almost prematurely for the 1960s -- as most of the material here dates from 1964 or 1965 -- the Stones set themselves up as the decade's most visible rock & roll rebels. The defiant, in-your-face fuzztone riff and sexually frustrated lyrics of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and the frenetic pounding punk anthem "Get Off of My Cloud" are highlights of a 12-song set that has no weak points, only peaks -- the louder-than-life rhythm guitars on "It's All Over Now" and "The Last Time," the wailing R&B of "Time Is on My Side," the balladry, folk, and soul style of "As Tears Go By" and "Tell Me," and all of the rest make for a body of work that's still amazing to hear decades after the fact. Appearing as it did in the late winter of 1966, this collection completely missed the group's drift into psychedelia, and it has since been supplanted by Hot Rocks and More Hot Rocks, but Big Hits is still the most concentrated dose of the early Stones at their most accessible that is to be had, short of simply playing their first five U.S. albums. The artwork and photography were pretty cool too, and the original LP had one of rock's early classic gatefold album designs.

The only single by Delai Alamos con Los King Stay was released in 1965 on Discos MAG, around the same time as the first recordings by Los Saicos and Los Shain's, just another proof that teenage rock'n'roll energy was sky high in mid-60s Peru. The playing ability displayed on these two tracks wouldn't get these guys into any music school, but it just makes them utterly brilliant. Ramshackle rhythms, a singer that shifts between Elvis-like moments and wild screams, sloppy surf guitars. and 100% garage punk attitude!

No South American 60s rock collection can be completed without this classic and scarce 1967 Colombian garage nugget, part of the lesser known rock catalogue of Discos Fuentes.This is the second and final album of the band, comprising skillful cover versions of songs by international artists like The Yardbirds, The Raiders, The Rolling Stones, The Byrds, The Hunters, The Easybeats...

Formed in Auckland in 1962, The Blue Stars only managed to release three singles but their 1966 track 'Social End Product' (off their second 45, which failed to chart at the time) has since become one of the holy grail records out of New Zealand. Its snarling vocals, fuzzy guitars, pounding rhythm and defiant attitude have made it legendary among freakbeat and 60s punk fans. It's backed on our reissue with the raucous 'I Can Take It', the B side of their first single, another scorching freakbeat nugget.

The Conspiracy hailed from Mount Pleasant, a college town in the center of Michigan. Originally formed as The Allusions, they became Nino & The Nomads before changing their name to The Conspiracy in 1966. For the next few years the group stayed busy on the live circuit. "We were booked all over the state," remembers singer Aquilino Soriano. "Every weekend we'd be somewhere. We were about two and a half hours from Detroit, so we'd go down south, we'd go up north; we'd go everywhere. There was this network of teen clubs where kids didn't have to be 21 and everybody could go. It was fantastic."In 1967 the group had what Aquilino describes as "probably our apex moment". Kustom Amplifiers sponsored a statewide Battle of the Bands tournament, and The Conspiracy battled through several rounds of competition to make it all the way to the finals in Saginaw. "It was a statewide thing that culminated there," remembers Aquilino. "Question Mark & The Mysterians and a couple of others that were notables were also in it - and we won it! We got our award from Bob Seger." The prize was thousands of dollars worth of gigs and a tuck and roll Kustom PA system, which the band put to use as they moved forward into 1968, brimming with confidence.A roving Capitol A&R man caught their show in Cadillac, Michigan, and encouraged them to write some original songs and go into the studio. So in 1968 that's what they did. 'Dream World' and 'With You' were recorded at a studio in Grand Rapids and the session turned out exceptionally well. "It just floored me that we didn't sit down and write some more songs," says Aquilino, "because I thought we did a pretty good job." 'Dream World' is particularly great with a soulful lead vocal, an insistent fuzz guitar line, waves of Hammond organ, a catchy, harmonized chorus and an insistent dance groove. Shades of The Doors, The Young Rascals, The Blues Magoos and SRC.A mixdown of the tape was forwarded to their contact at Capitol Records, but ultimately no deal was signed. "We were just starting to separate from high school," remembers Aquilino. "It was the start of that transition. I was Class of '67, they were Class of '68. There was the war in Vietnam. You could go to college to avoid the draft. It was a lot of decisions and I guess what happened is nothing really happened from us recording. I mean they liked it, they made us an offer, but I think that the parents weren't really happy with that. I think that there was some dissent in the band too."The Conspiracy broke up in early 1969 and the tape of the only original songs they ever played remained unreleased and unheard until 2018, when Soriano brought the original 1" 8-track session tape into Earthling Studios in El Cajon, California, where it was mixed and mastered by Mike Kamoo for this release. "Getting this out on vinyl - it's what we dreamed of!" Aquilino grins. "Even if it took fifty years to happen!"

fter revelatory experiences with LSD and meditation, Craig Smith left behind his successful career as composer for the likes of The Monkees, Andy Williams or Glen Campbell, and became Maitreya Kali, a self-professed psychedelic guru."Sam Pan Boat" and "Race The Wind" are two of his most haunting and unerringly beautiful songs, being the latter released here for the first time.

Pioneers of Uruguayan rock, Los Mockers released their first album in 1966, and they broke up shortly after. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of that celebrated album, the group met again in 2006 to record several new songs that rediscover all the strength and personal style of the band. This single presents, in a limited edition of 500 copies, two tracks recorded in that session, THE CHAIN and NEED SOME TIME.

Obscure 1965-1968 recordings, most of them previously unreleased, by The Individuals, The Tokays andEuphorian Railway, bands which featured Andy Cahan aka Johnny Farfisa as main songwriter and organ player. Over those three years, Cahan and his teenage bandmates produced a remarkable set of R&B/garage/blue-eyed soul tracks of outstanding quality, collected here for the first time.

Federal Duck was one of the many college bands to pop up during the psychedelic years and made a name for themselves as skilled musicians, playing numerous gigs over the short span of 4 years. This self-titled debut album, and only record of the band, includes a number of quality tracks, mixing elements ofjazz, country and, mostly, soft-psychedelia.' Tomorrow Waits For Today' stands out as a wonderful piece of jazzy pop psych that could easily rival the best recordings of the genre. But some will find 'Bird' is the most accomplished song on the album, featuring fierce guitars and energetic drums, bordering on hard psych. Although this solid LP successfully mixes such a varied combination of sounds and deserved to have made abigger splash when originally released, it has remained overlooked for a long time, until rediscovered by psychedelia collectors. "Federal Duck" is now reissued on vinyl for the first time. Facsimile artwork and 180g vinyl edition.

Along with Speakers, Flipper's, Beatniks, Ampex and Streaks, The Silver Thunders were responsible for one of the most exciting chapters of the early rock years in Bogotá, Colombia.Eccentric and volcanic, the quartet recorded an album in 1968 which wasn't released at the time. Rescued from old cassette tapes, that recording finally comes out five decades later, displaying the rebel spirit of a group influenced by Mersey beat, surf and garage."Me gritan melenudo" contains 'Alma agobiada', their only original composition, plus raw covers of The Beatles, The Monkees, The Troggs, Lovin' Spoonful, Miriam Makeba and The Ventures. It also includes two more Beatles songs and a couple of covers from the Wild In The Street soundtrack recorded in 1970 by Los Yoguis, as the group was known at the end of their short-lived career. The Surprise Package was comprised of members from The Viceroys and The Galaxies. Lee thrives on complication and contradiction: he performs songs from every Love album (including a particularly caustic 'Bummer in the Summer' from Forever Changes) as a means of acknowledging his past glories as well as his fraught history. Live, this version of Love sounds like a band mustering the conviction to take on the world one more time. But they never did: Lee disbanded the line-up shortly after the tour. A multi-ethnic aggregation, Gold's period of operation was between 1969 and 1971, during which time they were signed by Golden State Records and issued this now sought-after single in early 1970, produced by studio owner Leo Kulka under the pseudonym George Benz.For the flipside of this special reissue of o Parking' to celebrate Ace's 45th, we delved into the Golden State archives to find a previously unknown early version of 'No Parking', recorded six months earlier and boasting a more psychedelic approach, whilst still managing to maintain the brutal energy of the original disc.

In Angola, in one way or another, Vum Vum is normally considered to be the father figure of the Angolan rock scene.There has been a fair amount of tributes paid to the overwhelming uniqueness of 'Muzangola', his first EP, published in 1969 by Valentim de Carvalho. However, despite its release in Portugal, the record never saw wide distribution in its main'metropolis'. Most copies traveled with the Portuguese diaspora, and the record became a cult holy grail highly sought by record collectors in Europe. It's raw. It's emotional. It's heavy. It's short. This EP, of just four tracks, is full of emotion. Just listen to the crying shattering scream on Monami, and you will understand what we mean. This Groovie Records reissue is not only much welcomed, but, in this sense, brings due recognition for this masterpiece by the Angola Screamin' Jay Hawkins!

Wainwright’s Gentlemen were a fixture on the West London club and pub scene throughout 1964 and 1965. The tracks featured on Side 1 were cut at Jackson Sound Studios in Rickmansworth in February 1965 with Ian Gillan and Ann Cully on vocals. Mid 1965, Ian Gillan joined Roger Glover in Episode Six and he was still with them two years later when they recorded the two tracks on Side 2 for German TV.
