Psychedelick Rock & Mudéjar Rock from Zaragoza (Spain).

If you'd been a baker for more than 50 years, you could be forgiven for being sick of the sight of chocolate éclairs. Similarly, a half-century on from the first Stooges album, Iggy Pop has made it clear he's not as in love with rock & roll as he once was. Albums such as 2009's Preliminaires and 2012's Après have found him exploring less aggressive and more thoughtful material, and Iggy continues this trend with 2019's Free. In his liner notes, Iggy writes, "I began to recoil from guitar riffs in favor of guitarscapes, from twangs in favor of horns, from back beat in favor of space," and that's a concise and accurate summary of the sound he approaches on this album. While there are electric guitars on most of these numbers, there's little in the way of fuzz or bark, and a ghostly trumpet and waves of atmospheric keyboards play a much bigger role in the arrangements. Iggy had a hand in writing three of the tracks on Free, but most of the songs were penned by his primarily collaborators on this album, trumpeter Leron Thomas and Noveller, who is credited with "guitarscapes." There are a few playful moments, most notably on the sly and slinky "James Bond," but for the most part, Free finds Iggy contemplating a culture caught in a tailspin, and while no one would have expected the guy singing on Fun House to set Dylan Thomas' "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night" to music back in the day, here his deep, craggy voice and tone of weary rage fits the classic verse like a glove. Not everything on this album works, and the sex and porn rant "Dirty Sanchez" may be the stupidest thing Iggy has sung since 2001's misbegotten Beat Em Up, though at least take comfort in the fact he didn't write it. As a detour from rock & roll, Free is a fine and compelling study of the mind and mood of Iggy Pop at the age of 72, and if it's clearly the work of an older artist, that works to its favor, a pointed contrast to the abandon of his youth but with no less gravitas.

Kim Salmon’s creative productivity knows no bounds. While he occasionally looks backwards, re-visiting his Scientists and Beasts of Bourbon history in the live sense, for example, the overwhelming sense with Salmon is one of overwhelming momentum.
That’s the case with “True West”, his latest project which pairs him with late period Scientists drummer Leanne Cowie (nee Chock) to be his most vital sounding record since “Sin Factory”.
People will say there’s a lot of the Scientists in this album and the antecedents of both members of the duo makes it hard for that not to be the case. It’s also true that Salmon became the dominant force in that band so any mirrored traits are as much his as his old band’s.
That’s not to understate the contributions of his bandmates, but Salmon’s harrowing vocals and circular, insistent fuzz guitar lines were the glue for those throbbing one-note bass-lines and primal drum feels. Kim and Leanne is very much be a partnership on-stage but the songs are Salmon’s, with co-producer and Precious Jewels bandmate Michael Stranges a co-writer.
Make no mistake: From the creeping damp of industrial-smeared opener “The Science Test” to the piercing wail of “Freudian Slippers” and the death march of “Rude Embryos”, these are great songs. They’re not as brazenly abrasive as the last Surrealists album “Grand Unifying Theory” but they’re ugly enough in their own way. There’s no mid-album sweetener like “Rose Coloured Windscreen” on “Sin Factory” - a seeping cover of the Stones’ “Dead Flowers” serves that purpose - but there’s ample energy among the at times crushingly acrid sounds.
Do you listen to the words in songs? The lyrics are suitably twisted and off-the-wall.
While the chunky fuzz of “Hard To Get” embeds itself in your head, “So Naive” borders on perverse pop. it’s nicely brought undone by the atonal closer “Double Negativ”, where discordant guitar and vocals entwine themselves around Leanne Cowie’s rhythms.
You rarely hear people raving about Leanne’s drumming but Kim feels so highly about it that he installed her in a re-activated Scientists line-up a few years ago. Her drumming is the prefect foil on “True West” and it's easy to forget you’re listening to a duo.
“True West” is a high point. Don’t let it pass you by.

Neon Vampire is a band from Cádiz that was born as the natural evolution of their previous project, Champagne, with which they released three studio albums and performed concerts throughout the Spanish geography, performing at renowned festivals such as Ebrovisión or Not Without Music. The project takes its name from a dream of its leader from which the song that turns the sound of the group arises. This twist of the screw brings together the essential ingredients of the influences that have marked the tastes of the group members in their music: vocal harmonies with Wilsonian overtones, synthesizers in the purest ELO style, atmospheric guitars, exciting bases and organic acoustics that create a nuanced sound.

We present the new album by the Barcelona band Los 4Señores, “De Tuset a Las Ramblas”, recorded at the “Sol de Sants” studios between June 19 and 24 and produced by Mike Mariconda. This is the second album by Los 4Señores, a band with seasoned members forged in the Barcelona scene of the 80s (Kamenbert, Killwatts, Wom! A2, Brighton 64) and on this occasion we are witnessing the sound of a group in clear evolution and progression of sound r&b and garage from his first LP towards new registers, always within his characteristic sound, based on powerful guitars and a powerful and forceful rhythm section. “De Tuset a Las Ramblas” contains 10 original songs and a version of “Bebiendo y Bailando” by the legendary band Mermelada. The sound palette of these compositions includes influences from 70's rock, pub rock, psychedelic overtones, country or rockabilly flashes, without Los 4Señores trying to exercise style. These influences dot the songs naturally, because that's how they emerged during the creative process of their composition. Without having premeditated it “From Tuset to Las Ramblas” is a conceptual album. All the themes of his lyrics allude to the city, in this case Barcelona, although it could be any other, to specific places in its landscape, and to the people who live there. In this citizen framework, we see the daily problems and joys of ordinary people, who interact in their streets, bars, or subway stations.

This new album is confirmation that the band from Jaén is unique of its kind, and that they have made eclecticism their flag: cumbia, psychedelia, garage, boogaloo, guajira... in this work they continue to broaden their views in a conglomerate they call Garage Tropical . The title of the album does not seem accidental, since most of the themes are directly or indirectly related to the element that the ancient Greeks associated with immortality.

Finally released on vinyl, this magnificent album from 1993 which Hugo Race & the True Spirit released only in Europe and on CD. This record was at the peak of Hugo Race's period delivering the rawest blues sound. The sound of this album is like mixing The Beasts of Bourbon "black milk" with Rowland S. Howard "Teenage snuff film". As raw, bluesy, swampy and brutal as this. For those who follow the music of Hugo Race, it is a must. For those who don't know it yet, there is no better door to enter into his music. Released on limited edition in order to make justice to this wonderful record, it has been remastered by Hugo Race himself.

In 1975 Alex Chilton went into the Ardent Recording Studios with producer Jon Tiven and out of some tumultuous recording sessions came a number of loose and unpolished gems which would ultimately become the "Singer Not The Song" EP and "Bach's Bottom" album. "Take Me Home And Make Me Like It" is a raw document of one of the pivotal moments in Alex Chilton's career. It features previously unreleased rehearsals and alternate takes that tell the story of a troubled recording process that nevertheless produced intensely unique music.Notes by Alex Chilton and Jon Tiven. Debut album by The Japanese Girl, a hypnotic record that will surely put this band from Oporto at the forefront of Europe's psych-rock scene.The Japanese Girl is a Portuguese band formed in late December 2013 by Bruno Sousa, Corinna Sousa and Emanuel Cunha. Starting with two guitars, an organ and vintage drum machines, they immediately forged a raw and powerful sound somewhere between garage rock and psych lo-fi, while recently they have been joined by a drummer hammering through their opiated layers of reverb. Their intense, noise-filled live performances are accompanied by mysterious visual elements, and besides their own headlining shows the band has also played with Jacco Gardner, The Wand, Girls Names and as part of the Reverence Festival Party.In early 2015 they recorded "Sonic-Shaped Life", their debut album. It was put down on tape at Oporto's renewed studio Sá da Bandeira by Cláudio Tavares and Joao Brandao, and mastered by Miguel Pinheiro Marques at SDB Mastering. Leading single 'You Should Have Switches', released in September, gave the first clues about their own brand of hypnotic rock, where pulsating psychedelia, droney garage and shimmering, trippy pop provide the setting for haunting compositions, catchy hooks and engaging melodies. Over the course of ten tracks, the band sounds commanding in the darker passages or punked-up outbursts and shine in the more sunny, coloured moments, while the flow and pace of the album produce a wholly entrancing record.

"Hung Far Low" is the fifth and final studio album by New York noise rock band The Honeymoon Killers, originally released in 1991 and is now remastered in order to achieve the extreme sound desired for this band. The Honeymoon Killers recorded this album picking up 2/3 of the nascent Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and it meant a Sonic evolution to the band in the way to get the original Honeymoon Killers sound adding slicks of Pussy Galore and The Blues Explosion. As soon as the opening track of Electric Children begins you realize that the Monkeywrench have gotten much tighter in this their second álbum, since their debut eight years before. The production also seems more raw, possibly due to the fact that the band has moved from Conrad Uno to veteran Seattle producer Jack Endino, who also engineered the first releases from bassist Steve Turner and vocalist Mark Arm's other band, Mudhoney. Also contributing to the rawness of the record is the absence of Arm's trademark piano and organ. This enhances the energy, causing you to notice a more frantic, electrified side of the band. As on the debut album, Clean as a Broke-Dick Dog, several genres of music are given equal time, including the country of "Thirteen Nights" and "The Empty Place," the rockabilly of "The Weasel's in the Barn," the Eastern modal quality of "Around Again," and the noise rock of the closing number, "In the Days of the Five." The Monkeywrench have grown in their ability to craft a song, and the result is a masterpiece.
