Based in Stoke Newington, the three-piece make lo-fi fuzz-pop, and kind of sound like a mariachi band who have discovered the joys of garage rock. Piro’s songs are endearingly simple, as are his lyrics, which concern everyday things like the colour of his tracksuit as he runs through Hackney Marshes. There is something really charming about Pissinboy’s music, which owes as much to the lo-fi naivety of Daniel Johnston as it does to '60s garage bands.

MARC JONSON My Girlfriend (Doesn't Like The Ramones) (7")

After reissuing in 2018 his 1972 psych folk/baroque pop masterpiece "Years" and 1992's power pop gem "12 In A Room", Munster continues its collaboration with Marc Jonson with this 7" featuring two new tracks, which acts as a preview to a full length of new material later this year.Recorded in Cantabria, Spain with the backing of local three-piece band Compañía de Sueños Ilimitada, this single is further proof of Jonson's gift for writing wonderful pop music. He talks about the new songs:'My Girlfriend (Doesn't Like The Ramones)' and 'I Don't Wanna Go To School Today' preserve how I started out loving music with a pure teenage angst and simple melodic sensibility. They don't stray too far from their inspired essence because music can be whatever it feels best doing. If you're not feeling good about playing your guitar, getting back to basics usually works for me.Phil Spector, Brian Wilson and Mike Love, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Del Shannon, Dion, Arthur Lee, Van Morrison, Gene Clark, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Bo Diddley - these are my "go to" artists. Sometimes I even run to them and guess what? I'm set back straight again!

  38. MICKY La Cuenta Atrás (LP)

    MICKY La Cuenta Atrás (LP)

The amazing return of the Elastic Man and Colossus of Rhythm! Micky, a rock & roll pioneer in Spain along with his legendary backing band Los Tonys, has recorded a new album featuring 12 hits at Jorge Explosion's Circo Perrotti vintage studio. This time he's accompanied by a band of true lovers of rock & roll, including members of Doctor Explosion, Raunch Hands, The Kaisers, The Reak McCoyson and Bubblegum, among other underground garage stars.

Hello my friends! I guess this is all my fault, so let me tell you how I met Micky and how I decided to get involved in this adventure.

In 1997, on the occasion of a Dr Explosion show at the Actual Festival in Logroño, the organisers suggested each band played a couple of songs that night along with a singer from a 60s band. So there's me, meeting up with Micky at Hotel Pathos and rehearsing Los Tonys' 'I'm Over'. That was a memorable performance, and even a picture of me putting a laurel wreath on Micky's head (we were dressed up as Romans) appeared on the national press.

During the following 11 years, we saw each other a couple of times thanks to a friend in common, Miguel Escalada. Miguel is a legend and a close friend who in the 60s led his own beat group, Los Sonys. A June Sunday in 2008 when I was working in the studio, I got a call from them and we met up for an aperitif. I was really glad to see Micky again, and when he asked me what I was up to, I told him about Circo Perrotti and he seemed really interested. We ended up having lunch together and talking about rock & roll, and one thing led to another.

Suddenly it struck me. I'm tired of seeing old rock & roll stars from past decades coming back and trying to recapture that period with records that sound, to put it gently, "not exciting at all" or "rather cheesy". So I thought: "Wouldn't it be amazing to work on something with Micky? Would he be willing to be in my hands and trust my judgement? I know how to do it, I have the studio, the instruments, brilliant musicians and Micky is right in front of me." Without thinking twice, I asked him. I immediately thought about getting my friend John Gibbs, founding member of The Kaisers, involved, and I laughed to myself thinking: "All hell is going to break loose."

Micky was a rock & roll pioneer in Spain with Los Tonys, and he's probably the only person from the 60s with the required energy to get on board with something like this. He's always keen to try things, and both crazy and sane enough to pull this one off. He's an artist whose emotion while talking and singing is contagious. But this time he's doing it in a brutal, raw and honest way, without overblown productions or flashy musicians. Where the recording breathes with the urgency and excitement of proper rock & roll. The urgency of quick decisions, of first takes. The excitement of everyone playing at the same time. That's why I'm so proud that Micky is coming back showing what I consider his most interesting and sincere aspect as an artist, singing rock & roll.
