  1. VARIOS Kong'n'Roll (26 Rock'N'Roll Bands Tribute To... (LP)

VARIOS Kong'n'Roll (26 Rock'N'Roll Bands Tribute To... (LP)

The Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival (Sitges Festival for short) publishes this year as an official book a work by our journalist (and nevertheless friend) Pacus González Centeno, entitled "Three pieces for the murderer: Jazz, rock and electronics in crime and horror cinema ", in which he analyzes chronologically, decade by decade, the relationship between popular music styles and the main genre film styles of the 2nd half of the 20th century. Pacus had the brilliant (and crazy) idea of complementing the edition of the book with a disc of versions of some of the songs shelled in the book performed by bands from our current underground scene, and he raised the proposal to Family Spree Recordings, with the aim to collaborate in the selection of the songs, enrollment of the bands and coordination of all the actions necessary for the project to see the light. The idea was hatched in the form of a double LP and with the title "Kong'n'roll - 26 rock'n'roll bands tribute to the Sitges Horror Film Festival" and has the participation of 26 bands performing masterfully songs included in some of the films that formed the soundtrack of any of the selected films. And its edition will take place under the new label "Sawyer Family Party", to inaugurate a saga of future online projects different from that of its parent label.

Awesome quality from the sleeve to the content... 16 tracks of ultra rare, like truly rare tracks. Just check out that track listing and although some titles will be familiar, these are different versions and on vinyl for the 1st time (as far as we know)... the sound is tip top. A truly wonderful release from the folks behind the Ill Eagle releases a couple of years back and it looks like they have managed to get out of Russia and set up elsewhere. As with their previous releases a lot of thought has obviously gone into this and they-ve come up with the goods again!

  26. VINCE TAYLOR ET SES PLAY-BOYS Le Rock C'Est Ça! (LP)

VINCE TAYLOR ET SES PLAY-BOYS Le Rock C'Est Ça! (LP)

Vince Taylor is the stage name of Brian Maurice Holden, leader of the legendary Playboys. Though a British native, Taylor went to high school in Los Angeles and began his career there managed by Joe Barbera, of the legendary animation studio Hanna-Barbera, who was his brother-in-law. Though he started performing in the USA, it was on a trip back to London that he met the players who would become the Playboys, and it was in France and the rest of the European continent that Taylor found most of his success. Inspired by the likes of Elvis and Gene Vincent, Taylor brought rockabilly to Europe in a major way. This reissue on Rumble features his legendary debut 10" album + an entire side of bonus tracks culled from early singles compiled together on one deluxe LP of classic early rock'n'roll. Dig.

This is one great album...Trashy as hell?...Yep! Mixing totally unconventional Rockabilly with some downright dirty trash beats, The Howlin' Bones give you some idea of what lurks in their warped minds....If you think that primitive rockabilly ended in 1956 ?....This ain't for you ! It's a purist's nightmare ! Throw in a bit of Punk, a huge slice of Hasil Adkins (These guys can actually play though !) and you're getting close.

  34. ELVIS PRESLEY At The Movies (LP)

ELVIS PRESLEY At The Movies (LP)

Elvis Presley, the all time biggest music star needs little introduction. He was, of course, The King of Rock & Roll. Elvis was also a film star. He had already achieved his first big musical hits when he followed the path marked by his idols James Dean and Marlon Brando. Colonel Tom Parker pulled some strings and got him a screen test for Paramount Pictures. Next step was a contract with Hal Wallis and soon Elvis first film, Love Me Tender, was released. Throughout his career Elvis would appear in more than 30 movies and several TV shows. The present LP compiles some of the best tracks from the soundtracks of his early movies, those filmed between 1956 and 1960: Love Me Tender (1956), Loving You (1957), Jailhouse Rock (1957), King Creole (1958) and G.I. Blues (1960). This album features The King of Rock & Roll at his best in splendid musical productions that range from ballads to frantic rock and roll.

  39. THE CRAMPS Smell Of Female (LP)

THE CRAMPS Smell Of Female (LP)

One gets the feeling from the title and cover art alone that if the Cramps could have released this live document in Glorious Smell-o-rama they would have jumped at the chance. Even without it one can almost sense the whiffs of perspiration and energy the group was cooking up; recorded at New York's Peppermint Lounge withPowers on guitar, the quartet slams out a then mostly entirely new set of songs with, as expected, appropriate covers as needed. The wonderfully profane take on Hasil Adkins' "She Said" surfaces here, with Interiorsounding like he's about to die more than once. The Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction" and the perfectly appropriate "Faster Pussycat," taken from the legendary Russ Meyer film of the same name, also give the band more than a little something to chew on. As for the originals, the usual mess of swampy rockabilly and industrial strength noise comes together in just the right way from the start. "Thee Most Exalted Potentate of Love" gives Interior the chance to do his undead but still wired loveman thang right from the start, while Ivyand Powers hit the twang hard and Knox keeps everything going just right. "Call of the Wighat" is another highpoint, with Knox showing that he's up to more involved pounding and percussion when the need arises. A studio cut, "Surfin' Dead," surfaces as a ringer at the end; if not quite the Cramps go Beach Boys, it arguably forecasts the Jesus and Mary Chain's "Kill Surf City" just enough.

  40. LITTLE RICHARD The Implosive Little Richard (LP)

LITTLE RICHARD The Implosive Little Richard (LP)

A formative period, in the pre-Speciality recordings of Little Richard is hard to visualize the emphatic style that will make him famous later. Anyway, while here the man was forged bu its time and not vice versa, it's an interesting process that help us to understand where he came from, where the foundations of his universal, undisputed supra-scream lay.
