The Helmut Stein Experience is the soundtrack to a look into the darker elements of the human condition. Mixing elements of Jazz, Blues, Deep Soul and Pop, the music screams as well as soothes. It's late night into early morning music for a restless soul. Keyboardist/composer R. Scott (ex 00 Soul and Redd Foxx BBQ producer) has written a song cycle about situations both real and imagined. The music aches with loss and regignation as the lyrics tell stories of characters torn between right and wrong. Phil Golla adds smoky shades of sax and clarinet to the brooding landcape. His intrumental prowess allows bursts of expressive soloing and lulling melodic accompaniment. The rhythm section of Brad Wilson (drums) and Jason Hilliker (bass) keeps the music contemporary while employing classic elements from the great soul era. It's a sublime balance of past and present.Melinda Jones takes the spotlight, as well as provides support, with vocals as haunting as the voice a fallen angel.
